Measuring the audience of Australia’s news

News captures 17 million Australians each week, with over half reading the news before midday. Here’s the latest on readership and how these audiences are measured.

News sets the daily agenda for Australians with readership high across all age groups, including the hard to reach 14-to-34-year-old demographic.

Readership of Australia’s news brands is measured by independent research firm Roy Morgan. Each quarter, ThinkNewsBrands and Roy Morgan release the Total News readership figures.

Total News refers to the total picture of news across print and digital formats.

With a respondent size of over 40,000, print data is collected via survey and digital data is collected using a combination of survey data and an online panel that passively measures website and app visitation. Data is then integrated to create the Total News readership metric.
